The winners of the PhillyGoes2College “I Am Philadelphia” contest are taking the stage at this year’s Wawa Welcome America Festival through July 4th.
PhillyGoes2College (PG2C) teamed with the Wawa Welcome America Festival to create a contest to highlight and celebrate the aspirations of our city’s young residents. Students had two options for entering: the “I Am College Bound” spoken word performance or the “Great Things Are Happening in Philadelphia” video challenge.
Spoken word winner Candelaria Beatty and finalist Isabel Catalan will perform their original pieces “The Ardent Ones” and “Sentence Kisses for a City” at the Our America Now block party at the Barnes Foundation on July 2nd from 6-10pm. Their poems will be screened alongside video contest winner Teyanna Stone’s “Philly Calls,” at Community Movie Nights on June 20, June 21, June 23, and June 29; at Philly POPS July 3 concert at the Mann Center; and at the July 4th Concert at the TD Pavilion at the Mann Center. Can’t make it to the Festival? View all three pieces on PG2C’s website.
