In the current era of local and state budget cuts, PEF provides critical educational support services, otherwise lacking for many local children in Philadelphia’s economically-distressed schools.

Embedding our College Access Program in low graduation rate Philadelphia public high schools.

Through the College Access Program, PEF is providing full-time college and advising services  in sixteen low graduation rate high schools, serving nearly 4,000 at-risk students. Our students graduate high school, apply, and attend college at a rate that is well above the average for their peers.

Teaching schools how to create and sustain a college-going and career-success culture.

Our Philadelphia Postsecondary Success Program consults with 15 Philadelphia public schools in the design and implementation of school-wide strategies and activities that are predictive of high school completion and college readiness.

Democratizing access to college counseling by expanding services beyond school walls.

School district funding shortages mean college counseling is not fully available in every Philadelphia public high school, but thanks to PEF’s free PhillyGoes2College online portal, it is available to every Philadelphia high school student. The site provides support and resources, as well as college counseling through complementary in-person pop up experiences held city-wide.

Mitigating financial barriers to a college education.

Our Philadelphia Scholars Program awards Philadelphia public school graduates with college scholarships that bridge the gap between their financial aid packages and the actual cost of attendance. We also provide persistence support though our Mentoring Program, career programs, and peer support.

PEF regularly convenes education stakeholders in constructive dialogue through our Education First Compact, a monthly speaker series that draws 900 attendees a year; Educate Philly: PEF’s Annual Gala and Master Class; our education Author Series; and our 400-member collective impact effort, the Philadelphia STEM Ecosystem.
