On Saturday, August 2, over 50 of PEF’s Philadelphia Scholars, who will be heading to college soon for the first semester, gathered for an informative “First Year Experience” meeting. The goal of this event is to get granular with the students on what to expect during their first year, so they are setup for success as they embark on this exciting – and possibly daunting – next chapter in life!
Through presentations and extensive Q&A, PEF staff engaged with students on important topics such as making the academic transition to college, dealing with roommates, communicating with professors and administrative staff, self-care, and the requirements of their Last Dollar Scholarships.
Rounding out the morning, recent PEF Scholars alumni were present to answer any remaining questions and offer words of encouragement, having been in their shoes just four years ago!
