Earlier this fall, College Access Program (CAP) students from Frankford and Olney High Schools – over 50 combined juniors and seniors – were welcomed onto the campus of Manor College in Jenkintown for half day visits.
Upon arriving to campus, the CAP students were greeted by Admissions Counselor, Damian Schweizer, who is also a Manor College alumnus. During his presentation, Damian outlined the many resources available to first generation/low-income students, as well as the multitude of supports built into the student experience at Manor. Dr. Joseph Gillespie, Director of Admissions, shared some encouraging words with our students before the groups embarked on the tours, with stops at St. Josaphat Hall residences, gymnasium, and the Basileaid Library. The visit also included a hot lunch in the dining hall, generously provided by Manor College.
Other highlights included hearing from Dr. Marti Trudeau, Director of Manor’s nursing program, who shared with the group her educational journey, detailing experiences at Harvard and University of Southern California. Dr. Trudeau also gave CAP students an up close look at the medical training mannequins. The Frankford High School group even ran into one of their own, alumnus Laquan Harrison (picture below, far left) who graduated last spring and is currently enrolled at Manor College.
Before the visits concluded, John Simila, Assistant Director of Admissions, hosted instant decision sessions for interested seniors from both Frankford and Olney, and 15 students were accepted to Manor College on the spot! It was quite the celebratory end to an informative visit. Thank you to the team of Manor College administrators, professors and students for hosting the College Access Program.
