PEF’s Jared Epler Leads Statewide Dialogue on Counselor Self-Care

By Philadelphia Education Fund Posted: April 14, 2020

Counselors across the Commonwealth are working hard to ensure students do not lose any ground in the pursuit of their college ambitions during the COVID pandemic. But, who is supporting these same counselors as they navigate a new and uncertain landscape?

Let us introduce you to Jared Epler. Jared joined PEF in December as Director of PEF’s TRIO College Access Program. He’s a licensed professional counselor as well as experienced college counselor. He serves also as the Secondary School Counselor Committee Chair for the Pennsylvania Association of College Admission Counseling. In this role, he works to provide a space for college counselors to collaborate and access shared resources to serve students across Pennsylvania.

At the end of March, Jared hosted a “Virtual Counselor Support Group” to allow counselors (including PEF College Access staff) the opportunity to feel connected and share resources. More than 40 counselors from across Pennsylvania joined the session where they collaboratively problem-solved issues related to college counseling and COVID-19.
