We are pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Nancy Peter, Director of PEF’s McKinney Center Director of STEM Education, to Pennsylvania’s Science Standards Committee.
The appointment was announced by Governor Tom Wolf on May 6, 2020.
Long a champion of STEM education through initiatives such as PA Smart, in his announcement Governor Wolf offered this reason for the formation of the Committee: “We must modernize science standards so students have the knowledge and skills for good careers in emerging industries.”
Dr. Peter, who has led initiatives at PEF in the development of STEM curriculum on solar energy and energy efficiency, will be one of just two Philadelphia representatives to serve on the 60-person committee. In her role, she will engage as a content expert and advise the Commonwealth as it defines the STEM standards that will inform the development of curriculum and instruction in all Pennsylvania schools.
