Chromebooks Keep Philadelphia Scholars on Track

By Philadelphia Education Fund Posted: April 14, 2020

Imagine trying to keep up with your college studies without the necessary technology. That is a harsh reality for many low-income, first-generation college students, including recipients of PEF’s Philadelphia Scholars scholarship.

Thanks to a generous donor, eight Philadelphia Scholars who did not have computers at home now have refurbished Chromebooks. Previously, they tried to keep current with classes using their phones or, in contravention of COVID guidelines, going to the homes of friends and family members to watch lectures and complete assignments. Scholars Program staff ascertained student needs through a COVID Needs & Concerns Questionnaire sent to all Scholars on March 26.
