What does it look like to plan for a school district budget in the midst of a global pandemic? That has been the challenge posed to Uri Monson, Chief Financial Officer of the School District of Philadelphia. With tax revenues down, new costs associated with COVID safety to be budgeted, and the path and speed of economic recovery uncertain, there is much to consider. According to recent headlines, current estimates predict a five-year deficit of $800 million or more.

A perennial Education First Compact presenter, Monson will share with us the challenges that lie ahead for the School District’s budget, the impact of the COVID pandemic on revenue and expense decisions, and possible implications for our students and schools.
